Steven Holl to speak at the University of Iowa

Art Building West architect Holl will speak April 21

Internationally renowned architect Steven Holl, designer of the award-winning University of Iowa Art Building West, will speak on "Porosity" at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, April 21, in C20 Pomerantz Center on the UI campus.

Holl has been selected to design the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' new Visual Arts Building, which will replace the old Art Building that was irreparably damaged by the flood of 2008.

Holl, who was featured as "America's Best" architect in a July 2001 issue of Timemagazine, has designed a number of award-winning buildings, including the College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of Minnesota, Bellevue Art Museum in Washington state, the Chapel of St. Ignatius in Seattle, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Finland, and a major addition to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City.

Art Building West's honors include the American Institute of Architects 2007 Institute Honor Award for Architecture and an award from the Royal Institute of British Architects.
