Visiting Designer Terry Rathje to visit the 3D Design Program

The Artist and Designer Terry Rathje is the Spring 2010 Visiting Artist in 3D Design. Terry is visiting the program again for a second round of his workshops in animation and motion graphics using Adobe After Effects. At this time, the students will be working on a hands-on assignment throughout the whole time. The enrolled participants are expected to develop a time-based piece that features one of their produced pieces.

Terry visited the 3D Design Program in the spring 2009 semester for 3 days when he held a workshop on Adobe After Effects and Motion Graphics. During this time, students were engaged in learning the software and developed small projects.

Terry Rathje grew up in Eastern Iowa, making art since an early age. He attended the University of Iowa, after which he ran a Graphic Design company in Long Grove, Iowa for fifteen years. He then returned to school and earned a BA in Computer Graphics from Marycrest International University in Davenport, IA. He taught animation for a year there, while also working as a Video Graphic Designer and Video Editor at the Quad City Times, a division of Lee Enterprises Inc. for six years. In 1999, he became a Professor of Graphic Design at Western Illinois University, where he has been for the past eleven years, teaching package design, animation, book design, instructional graphics, typography, identity design, and poster design. In 2006, he obtained an MA in 3D Design from the University of Iowa, and in 2008, an MFA in 3D Design.
