And the Fall 2010 semester begins!

The 3D Design Program begins its fall 2010 semester at full force. This Monday, we opened up the semester with two classes: Problems in Design I and Introduction to CAD for 3D Design. Many students in both sections paying were paying attention to the instructions given by the TAs.

Tomorrow, the 3D Design Program Coordinator, Prof. Monica Correia, returns to the studio and opens the Problems in Design II: Form and Function class. In this class, computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing will be used to design functional pieces from furniture to small objects. Also, we start the Introduction to Portfolio Design class, where the students will be working on digital, short animations for her projects! Talk about exciting...

On Thursday, sustainability takes place with the beginning of the Environmental Design I course, where students should expect to develop a great awareness on sustainable design practices and ideas. At last, on Friday, it is time for the graduate students to get their minds working on their creative research in the Advanced Problems in Design class, ending the first week of other 15 to come this semester.

And the last bit of great news is that this Fall, the Program starts a pilot project with the students enrolled in 01A:004 - Design Fundamentals. For the first time at the School of Art and Art History, a foundation course in design will be taught entirely using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) technologies. Basic design principles with cutting-edge production methods. It can't get any better than that.

We will keep you updated on the production of all the classes here, so keep an eye on our blog.
