The 3D Design Program is Turkey-bound!

This coming summer, the students and faculty in the 3D Design Program are packing their bags with clothes, shoes and design works. In June 3rd, 10 members and 2 former members of the academic program are heading to Istanbul, Turkey for another edition of the program's biannual exhibition Design Plural.

Monica Correia, the program coordinator is traveling along with 2 former students, 2 graduate students and 7 undergraduate BFA students from the program to showcase their knowledge, skill and creativity to the Eastern side of the world while having the chance to experience a unique cultural and even geographical setting since Turkey is partially in Europe and partially in Asia.

The exhibition will last only a week and is going to be held at Bahçeşehir University in the Faculty of Architecture and Design building. Along with the show, scheduled to last from June 6th to June 10th, Correia and her students will be giving a talk and will be demonstrating works that use Virtual Reality to the public in the opening day.

Throughout the rest of the week, the public can enjoy design works that range from objects, furniture, interiors, microarchitecture and animations, executed with the latest in Computer-Aided Design Technology, including Rapid Prototyping and 3D Printing and CNC cutting.

Some students and faculty are also participating in a collaborative project where all the participants must design a set of furnishings that include a chair/stool, a floor element, a free-standing lamp and a side table utilizing sustainable materials and CAD technology.

To celebrate the event, a catalogue is being produced and should be printed within a few weeks. This edition of Design Plural is being sponsored by Bahçeşehir University, The University of Iowa, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Art and Art History and the Office for the Vice President for Research. The program is very thankful for their support and everyone is invited to attend the show in June!
